Metropolitan Transit System (MTS)

Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will hold a press conference on April 8 at the 12th and Imperial Transit Center. MTS officials and board members will be joined by mayors, city council members and representatives from local Chambers of Commerce and the Association of Associated General Contractors of America. North County Transit District board members will also participate. They will call on Congress to pay a long-term funding solution, celebrate the jobs, economic prosperity and quality of life improvements for San Diego area. Also, MTS is encouraging residents to take public transit on San Diego Padres’ opening day April 9.

Antelope Valley Transit Authority

The Antelope Valley Transit Authority, Lancaster, CA, will hold a rally and press conference April 9 from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Palmdale Transportation Center. U.S. Rep. Steve Knight (R-CA), along with other representatives at the federal, state, county and local levels, is scheduled to speak during the event about the impending May 31 expiration of MAP-21. The purpose of the rally is to send a clear message to Congress that a long-term investment in transportation infrastructure is urgently needed.

Hosting a media event with other area public transportation agencies at 10 a.m. beside the historic Queen Mary. Speakers include Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D), Rep. Janice Hahn (D), members of the state Assembly, mayor of Long Beach, LBT CEO and other key supporters. Press conference will immediately follow the Queen Mary event. In addition, LBT will host a community rally in the heart of downtown Long Beach with food, music, commemorative giveaways and information on how the public can SU4T with us.

County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, Move L.A. and other major regional transportation stakeholders to call attention to key public transportation and highway projects that could be in jeopardy due to lack of certain long-term federal funding. Those projects include the area’s largest transit initiatives: Metro Purple Line Extension, Regional Connector, I-5 and numerous others. Those attending include Rep. Maxine Waters, Rep. Judy Chu, Stephanie Wiggins, Interim CEO, Metro; Ali Zaghari, Deputy Director for Operations , Caltrans District 7; Sam Joumblat, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Metrolink; Stephen Polechronis, Senior Vice President, AECOM; Patrick Furey, mayor, city of Torrance; Jason Pu, mayor, city of San Gabriel; Lula Davis-Holmes, councilmember, city of Carson; Gary Toebben, president and CEO, L.A. The San Joaquin Regional Transit District is hosting several Stand Up 4 Transportation Day activities throughout Stockton, CA, on April 9. RTD invites the public to participate in activities at two transit centers and will take public officials on a private bus tour of the city.
